Business as Usual

Image
Today was a day of errands, details, and duties. Brian worked from the hotel taking calls and meetings. The external monitor he ordered from Amazon arrived (late) to make his workday easier. We got BBQ for lunch from a delicious local place called Smokey Bones . In the afternoon the kids and I ran errands and went shopping at Target and Kohl's. Unfortunately our hotel does not have a laundry, so tomorrow I'll be hitting the laundromat. In the evening I took Bailey to gymnastics for 4 hours while Brian, Uncle Brice,  and the other kids went to ride Go-Karts followed by dinner at an Irish Pub. Our 9 year-old won 2 free shots at bingo at the pub! Overall it felt like a bit of an anti-climactic day on vacation, but we enjoyed the time together as a family and remember that no matter where we are, we love doing life together. **Meanwhile, back at home today marked the start of the new floors being installed. I didn't receive an update on that today, so speculation is all we have...

Nightmares

So last night's hotel experience was the stuff of nightmares. Not a true horror nightmare, but a nightmare light of sorts. The hotel was hot and crowded. The kids tried to swim, but the pool was overrun with a church group of yelling kids, some drunk guys with cases of beers, tons of families with little kids, and who knows who all else. Our room of 5 people received two towels and at one point I had to make an emergency toilet paper run to the front desk. Amidst all this chaos we needed to get some sleep for today's 9 hour drive. The noisy, packed hallways didn't empty until far too late in the night. The church kids burned some popcorn resulting in a stench in the hallway and about 10 rooms of kids emptying out of their rooms to check it out. The one poor chaperone seemed confused and did nothing to shush them. The room across the hall from us remained propp...

While part of any roadtrip is the thrill of adventure and discovering new places, there is also a certain comfort in revisiting some sites and scenes from prior trips. We're in Atlanta right now, a place where me and my husband often come for work. We spent the day reconnecting after almost 2 weeks apart and taking care of business, in a sense.  We started the day off with free hotel breakfast (always a favorite!). Then I set out to visit a local RCQ and do some planning for future events. It went well and a huge shoutout to CardsHQ for being awesome. I look forward to visiting again next time I'm in town. Next down to the airport to return my husband's rental car, followed by lunch at the Dwarf House, original home of Chick-fil-a. We opted to skip the aquarium because even though it's amazing, it's Saturday afternoon in summer and the crowds would be huge. At a price tag of over $50/person not counting fast passes, we decided to invest in ourselves instead and hav...
